Gigacover extends COVID-19 coverage to freelancers, GoJek drivers
Income protection policies will cover stay home notices and leaves of absence.
Insurance startup Gigacover is extending its COVID-19 coverage for freelancers and GoJek drivers at no additional costs, according to a news release.
Income protection insurance policies will now provide cover to insured freelancers for stay home notices (SHN) and leaves of absence (LOA). Those infected will get a one-time payout of $285 (S$400), in addition to previously announced coverage for quarantined orders, if they are diagnosed until 31 March.
Under this extension, eligible insured freelancers can claim for SHN/LOA if they had travelled to mainland China on or before 31 January, and if they were placed on SHN or placed themselves on LOA upon their return to Singapore on or after 31 January.
Gojek’s driver covered by the income protection insurance will be able to claim a payout of up to $4,637 (S$6,500) if they are placed on hospitalisation leave due to the virus, up to $713 (S$1,000) if they are placed on quarantine, up to $399 (S$560) if they are under SHN/eligible LOA, and up to $285 (S$400) if they are infected.
These are provided under Gigacover’s income protection insurance, and come on top of other benefits previously announced by Gojek, which include vehicle rental waiver and financial support for drivers affected during this period.
