Air India halts flight to Moscow over insurance concerns

Its new contract prohibits its aircraft from landing and taking off in Russia and Ukraine.

Air India has suspended its twice-weekly Delhi-Moscow nonstop flight since 1 April because its new insurance contract prohibits its aircraft from landing in and taking off from Russia and Ukraine, according to a report by the Times of India.

The last Delhi-Moscow-Delhi flight by Air India was on 31 March. The airline's plan to introduce a Mumbai-Moscow flight was shelved for now.

Air India renews its insurance for its flights and aircraft every financial year beginning 1 April. It typically buys insurance from New India Assurance, National Insurance Company, Oriental Insurance Company and the United India Insurance Company with covers underwritten by international companies.
