60% of patients put off going to the doctor because of a lack of health cover.

Almost seven in 10 respondents in India are saying that health insurance policies are too difficult to understand, a study by healthcare startup Pristyn Care Data Labs revealed.

The study also revealed that 60% of patients delay medical treatment because of the lack of health insurance.

Almost 50% said that the biggest pain point is the long waiting time when filing an insurance claim. Other challenges include were deduction of money at the time of claiming (24%) and complex paperwork (17%)

Additionally, a majority of people want alternative treatments like Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, homeopathy, and naturopathy to be covered under health insurance.

“The patient’s journey starts from buying health insurance, meeting a healthcare provider, receiving the diagnosis, getting treatment, paying for the services and then claiming health insurance. Amongst the dozens of healthcare pain points, a long waiting time for the claim approval is the biggest pain point as one vastly underestimates the costs associated with medical treatments,” Harsimarbir Singh, co-founder of Pristyn Care said.
