China boosts healthcare with 95% insurance stability

744 drugs have been added to the insurance catalogue.

China’s National Healthcare Security Administration indicated that its basic medical insurance sector stabilised at over 95%, whilst quality continuously improved.

From 2003 to 2023, government contributions to rural and non-working urban residents' insurance outpaced personal contributions, providing vital support for low-income individuals.

Specifically, an ordinary resident's continuous insurance from 2003 to 2023 incurs a 30% personal contribution, totalling 2,640 yuan.

Over the years, 744 drugs were added to the insurance catalogue, with over 80% of innovative drugs included within two years of market entry.

Currently, the reimbursement rate for inpatient medical bills stands at about 70%.

In 2023, individual premiums totalled CNY349.7b, whilst government subsidies amounted to nearly CNY697.8b.

The government's commitment to enhancing medical services with a patient-centred approach was reiterated in this year's government work report.
