Hong Kong insurance regulator warns public of fake insurer website
The fake website has now been reported to the police.
The Insurance Authority of Hong Kong is warning the public against a fake insurance website using the name of Bowtie Life Insurance Company, an authorised insurer.
According to the IA, Bowtie has confirmed that the website has no connections with the company.
The case has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. The IA advised anyone who has provided personal information to the aforesaid website or has conducted any insurance transactions through the website should call Bowtie Customer Services Hotline, and report the case to the Hong Kong Police Force.
“Any company carrying on insurance business in or from Hong Kong must be authorized by the IA under the Insurance Ordinance. The full list of authorized insurers in Hong Kong can be found on the Register of Insurers on the IA website,” the IA said.
This is not the first time that the IA is warning the public against fake websites. In September, the insurance regulator warned the public against “Hong Kong Vibrate Co., Limited” being an unauthorised and unlicensed company carrying fake information. Just recently, the IA also warned about phishing scams on Whatsapp.
