HSBC Life launches instant health scanner app Health Scan+

The app can assess one’s general health in just 30 seconds.

In just 30 seconds, HSBC Life’s newest health scanner app Health Scan+ can assess someone’s general health through a facial scan powered by an artificial intelligence tool.

Health Scan+ uses facial diagnostic tools to assess the ambient light reflected from users’ facial skin and detect the changes in blood flow. The information will then be processed by an artificial intelligence engine to calculate key health parameters of vital organs with a high degree of accuracy.

The technique Health Scan+ uses to measure diastolic blood pressure has an average overall accuracy of 95% for readings of 60 millimetres of mercury (mmHg) to 89mmHg.

Users only need to turn on the built-in camera of their smart device, and scan their face for 30 seconds without using any wearables or additional devices. By comparing the results generated against standard metrics, including resting heart rate, stress level based on heart rate variability, breathing, blood pressure, cardiac workload and facial skin age, Health Scan+ will highlight potential areas of concern and offer actionable insights to support healthcare and lifestyle choices for well-being references.

However, HSBC Life clarified that the Health Scan is not meant to be a substitute for professional advise. It is a tool designed to enhance the user’s awareness of potential health issues and help facilitate the switch to a healthier, sustainable lifestyle.

The Health Scan+ is HSBC’ Life’s latest addition to its digital employee benefits platform Benefits+ which is  powered by the latest health technology to help users conveniently monitor their general health through a simple 30-second face scan.

“The launch of Health Scan+ allows our customers to instantly and frequently assess a number of their health vitals through the convenience of their smart phones. We believe it is in everyone’s interests to keep abreast of their health and wellness, particularly if they notice changes in their body and mind such as mood swings and stress levels of general well-being. Our goal is to help people live healthier and happier lives at ease, anytime anywhere,” Celia Chan, Chief Health Officer of HSBC Life Hong Kong said.
