Over 1.3 billion have basic medical insurance in China 

This accounts for over 95% of the nation’s total population.

About 1.334 billion individuals were covered by China’s basic medical insurance program by the end of 2023, according to an official statistical report via Xinhua.

The figure represents over 95% of the country's total population.

Based on China's medical insurance system development in 2023 report, approximately 371 million are urban employees covered by the basic medical insurance program.

Moreover, around 963 million are beneficiaries of the program designed for rural and non-working urban residents, as per the National Healthcare Security Administration’s report.
