Insurance veteran to run for Singapore’s presidential seat
He became CEO of Income Insurance (formerly NTUC Income) up until 2007.
Finance and insurance veteran, Tan Kin Lian, announced in a social media post his application for a certificate of eligibility at Singapore’s 2023 presidential election.
Lian has worked with Singapore’s Income Insurance (formerly NTUC Income) as a general manager and eventually held the position of chief executive officer (CEO) until 2007.
Other contenders from the financial sector include ex-GIC CIO Ng Kok Song and ex-MAS chair Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

Throughout Lian’s career, he held various directorships and corporate appointments.
Notably, he was the former chairman of the International Co-operative & Mutual Insurance Federation, a global organisation representing 123 insurance groups during his tenure.
